On May 26th, the 11th generation of the new Fire HD 10 and Fire 10 Plus were released. In addition, the "Fire HD 10 Essential Set," which includes Fire HD 10, a cover with a keyboard, and Microsoft 365 Personal 1-year edition, has just been released.

The point of interest is the cover with a Bluetooth keyboard that has been certified by Made for Amazon, and the cover that comes with the "Essential Set" has been released.

The manufacturer is Fintie in the United States, which handles a large number of covers for tablets and game consoles. Whereas many keyboard covers require some sort of stick-like support on the back of the tablet, this product has a solid hinge that allows it to be stopped at any angle without support. Instead, the hinge part is Gottsui, but when you open the screen, this hinge part pushes up the keyboard and makes it easy to hit.

Also, this keyboard part can be removed by pulling it. The four claws are the guides, but they are attached by a fairly strong magnet, so the keyboard will not come off when you lift the tablet part. The usability in this area is almost like a laptop computer.

The keyboard is so stiff that it won't bend unless it's a very hard puncher. Instead, the thickness of the keyboard part is moderate, and the thickest part when closed is about 21 mm. Since it also covers the back of the tablet, it can't be helped to make it a little thicker than the thin notebook PCs these days. In addition, the total weight of the Fire HD 10 and keyboard case is 1,088g, which is much larger than it looks.

You can switch between Japanese and alphanumerical input with "Shift + Space" as well as "Fn + Ctrl". "Shift + Space" is a method to switch between Japanese and English on IME, and "Fn + Ctrl" is a method to switch on and off the IME itself.

The keyboard layout is supposed to be a Japanese keyboard, but there are some irregularities because it is exclusively for Fire HD 10. The first thing I noticed when I entered the text was that the line of the number keys was shifted to the left by one. The slightly larger leftmost key is where the "full-width / half-width" key comes from on a normal Japanese keyboard, but since it is "1" from there, it shifts to the left one by one.

Therefore, the long vowel (-) key, which is unexpectedly often used for Japanese input, is also shifted to the left by one. There is a "^" (hat / caret) key in the usual place, so when you type "keyboard", you may inadvertently change it to "keyboard".

Personally, I think it would have been better to have the rows of the number keys in a normal array, such as bringing the "\" key to the left end. Looking at the US keyboard layout of Amazon, the left end is the "~" (tilda) key, so the numbers and long vowel keys are in the normal position.

Since it is for tablets, we promise that there will be no F key, but instead, there are plenty of dedicated keys. If you combine the leftmost home key with the next search key, you can always return to the home screen and the search window will be waiting for input. It's convenient when you want to do a little research.

If you press the second earth key from the right, Silk, the standard browser of Fire HD, will be launched. You can combine this with the search key. If you combine it with the third "Back" button, you can perform reasonable operations without reaching for the screen one by one. The fourth folder key launches the file browser.

From the fifth onward, you will find useful functions for watching videos on streaming services such as Amazon Prime Video. Screen brightness, content playback stop, fast forward and rewind, volume up and down.

Since it is a Bluetooth connection, you can control it even if you disconnect the keyboard from the main unit. It's easy to operate the Fire HD 10 that stands somewhere in place instead of a remote control. However, the keyboard goes into sleep mode 30 minutes after no operation, so the operation may not work immediately in the middle of a long movie.

It takes about 4 hours to fully charge the keyboard battery, but it has 400 hours of continuous use and 365 days of standby time. Just open the cover and the Fire HD 10 will wake up, so there is almost no feeling of "attaching a separate keyboard".

There is also a mailer launch button at the bottom of the keyboard. Also, as a slightly convenient function, you can also operate the tablet's dual screen display function with Fn + S on the keyboard. You can assign a browser on one side and a mailer on one side for business email, or you can assign Exel on one side and Amazon Prime on one side and pretend to work.
